Products: Our products are 100% recycled. Havea Designs is about repurposing/redesigning discarded material so it can be reused and serve a second life. The bottles are collected from restaurants, bars and cafes around Sydney. Wine, beer, spirit, spring water and olive oil bottles are diamond cut and hand bevelled into tumblers, terrariums, carafes, oil burners, platters and candle holders. The wood is hand crafted from recycled fence palings and wooden pallets. These sustainable upcycled homewares make unique gifts and will definitely add an environmentally friendly touch to your home.
The Maker: Tevita Havea is a Tongan born artist who works predominantly in glass and organic materials across sculpture and installation. Spending his formative years in the Pacific Islands immersed in traditional arts and crafts he developed a love for the hand made.
Living close to the land you are taught you are an extension of it.
You had to do more with less as resources are limited, objects were rarely discarded instead they were mended, moulded and fashioned to serve another purpose and as I make things it feels as if I am returning to where I started
Tevita graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the Australian National University, Canberra, 2005, and has undertaken residencies at Sydney College of the Arts and Newington Armoury.
His work has been recognized internationally in major collections such as Corning Museum of Glass, New York, the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the Ernsting Stiftung Museum,Germany, as well as being exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
In 2009 he was the recipient of the prestigious International New Talent Award by Urban Glass New York.
